After two rounds of auditions in December, we already have a strong set of talented people who will bring this little-known but gorgeous Rogers & Hammerstein musical to life. However, Allegro centres around a close-knit town community, and we need a bigger town!
Everybody is welcome to come along to our extra auditions in the morning on Saturday 13 January, but men in particular are who we need most.
There are still plenty of roles available!
What do you need to do:
Email us that you’d like to come:
Get to Amstelveen (20 minute bus ride from Amsterdam Olympiaplein & 2 minute walk)
Sing some scales and a couple of songs from the show (which we will send you when you email).
If your audition is successful and you are able to stay in Amstelveen for the afternoon, you can immediately join in our first rehearsal – 13:00-16:30!
Rehearsals will be held on Thursdays from 19:00 – 22:00 and on Saturdays from 11:00 – 16:30, with breaks during school holidays and the week of FEATS (Festival of European Anglophone Theatrical Societies).
First rehearsal is on 13 January 2018.
Performance dates are:
Wednesday 18 July - Dress Rehearsal with Preview Audience
Thursday 19 July - Opening Night @ 20:00
Friday 20 July @ 20:00
Saturday 21 July @ 14:00 & 20:00
Sunday 22 July @ 14:00

As far as we know, Allegro has never been performed in the Netherlands in the 70 years since it was first produced - perhaps not even in northern Europe apart from a revival that took place in London UK in 2016.

As an ‘integrated’ musical that uses songs to progress the narrative, Allegro now fits the standard model for musicals, but was a little ahead of its time when it was new. Never a Broadway success, the show has rarely been produced. However, with a lush musical score, catchy songs and an ‘everyman’ story that relates to everyone’s experiences of making career and life decisions, Allegro is fun to perform and enjoyable to watch.

Focusing on one man's life, from birth in 1905 until his thirty-fifth year, Allegro also portrays life and love against the backdrop of the Depression.

With no stage sets and important use of the chorus as singers and as a ‘Greek Chorus’, the Allegro ensemble is a very significant part of the show, with all players on stage at all times and participating in spoken roles throughout the show.

Come and join the Allegro town!
