Workshop: Script Writing

  • CREA Nieuwe Achtergracht Amsterdam, NH, 1018 Netherlands (map)

We will look at similarities of play and screenplay structures - what each scene must do, directing the focus, conflict, etc. and the differences. The rules of screenplay writing will be discussed, such as the four-line rule, page count, white space and more. We will also compare plays and film adaptations in works like Shirley Valentine, August: Osage County and Shakespearean plays. All participants will take a scene from an existing or original play and work on adapting it into a screenplay. Everyone needs to bring a short scene to work with, preferably with just a few characters. Please bring copies of the scene to the workshop, a copy for every character plus one.
