Synopsis of the Play:

On a visit to New York, the Pope decides to swap his personal limousine for a taxi, without notifying his security detail. This humble decision evolves into an unexpected turn of events. The Pope finds himself hostage in the home of Jewish taxi driver Samuel Leibowitz, demanding a very special ransom: One Day of World Peace. This act has a major impact on the Pope, Samuel, his family and, in fact, the world. Chaos, misunderstandings, wild schemes, and unexpected alliances are played out in this humorous and heartwarming play, filled with witty dialogue, clever plot twists, and a touch of satire and politics.

About the Director:

Alexandra has been active in amateur theatre over 15 years, both as actress as well as director. She chose to direct Joao Bethencourt’s play “The Day they Kidnapped the Pope” with InPlayers to explore its very relevant themes. What it would take in our day and time to change the world? What does it take for humanity to join forces, if even for one day? We shall find out!
