We invite all aspiring and experienced actors to join the workshop: Shakespeare’s Heartbeat by Jo van der Meij.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, April 6th, from 10:00 to 13:00, at De Roos van Dekamaweg 4, 1061 HT Amsterdam.
Performing Shakespeare is exciting, challenging and fun! The characters are honest and offer performers so much to dive into. If you want to perform Shakespeare, you need to learn to bring the heartbeat underneath the lines, to life. This heartbeat is also known as the Iambic Pentameter, or verse. In this short workshop you'll be introduced to both the technique that lies behind the lines and the wide range of fun options to perform Shakespeare’s iconic texts.
The workshop is free for members of InPlayers (find information about membership options here: InPlayers Membership). And what’s more; Jo is giving all InPlayers members a generous discount on Park Avenue Theatre’s workshops, see: parkavenuetheater.nl/workshops.
Jo van der Meij is the artistic director of Park Avenue Theater and works as a director and an actrice, specialised in Shakespeare & Comedy and personal coaching of actors. She has directed and edited over twenty plays, and teaches at the Paul van Vliet Theater Academy in Scheveningen. She graduated from the ‘Amsterdam Theater Academy’ with her own show in 2009. Master classes at the renowned Stella Adler Acting Studio in New York followed and after a short period in London, working on small film projects, she was back in the Netherlands.
She joined The Dutch Factory, played (lead) roles in Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Richard III and has done a variety of other shows, most recently at The Reckless Shakespeare Company.
