We invite all aspiring and experienced actors and theatre-makers to join the workshop Neurodivergent Approaches to Theatre-Making: Text Truth & Trust, by Barbie Insua.
The workshop is free for members of InPlayers. Find information about membership options (like membership for a day) here: InPlayers Membership.
This workshop is led by Barbie Insua, a theatre director, actor, and educator, whose work is informed by neurodivergent ways of thinking and making. Her practice centers on close attention to text, rehearsal processes that are adaptable, and clearly communicated, and
ensemble work that fosters trust and creative safety. She creates rehearsal spaces built on clear structure while remaining curious about what unfolds through the shared work.
This two-day intensive explores how rehearsal processes that adapt to individual thinking and working styles, with clearly stated expectations, can strengthen theatre-making for everyone. The work is anchored in the text, alongside physical awareness and ease, and active ensemble practice. Through scene work and guided rehearsal, participants test how these elements deepen understanding and strengthen performance. In the process, new tools and insights emerge through the work itself.
The workshop is neurodivergent-centered but open to everyone. Actors, directors, and anyone interested in working with text and performance are welcome, regardless of neuro-type, particularly those interested in working more effectively with different cognitive styles and learning approaches. Participants are always free to step out briefly, regulate sensory input, or adjust their level of engagement as needed. Self-identification is valid and respected, and no formal diagnosis is required to participate. No prior performance experience is required. Come ready to work, listen, and explore.
