About the Workshop
Intimate scenes — a kiss, an embrace, anything that asks performers to cross the ordinary boundaries of personal space — are some of the most powerful moments we put onstage, and some of the hardest to build well. Too often they’re improvised in the room with no shared language for consent, no clear process for exploration, and no room for anyone to say “not that”, without derailing the whole rehearsal.
In four hours, you’ll build a toolkit to help you stage intimacy more safely: clear boundary-setting, negotiation that doesn’t kill spontaneity, and a shared vocabulary you can bring into any rehearsal room — as performer, director, or both. Expect a mix of discussion and physical practice.
A note on the physical work: part of this workshop involves partnered exercises with the option for physical contact — think a hand on a shoulder, an arm around a waist, holding hands. This is not a workshop about kissing or high-intensity intimacy, and no one will be paired with a stranger and asked to perform intimacy cold; every partnered exercise builds gradually and is fully guided.
You will never be asked to do anything with a partner without agreeing to it first. Everyone has the right to say no (or sit out), for any reason, at any time — no further explanation needed.

Performers who want tools to advocate for their own boundaries and partner well with others in intimate scenes
Directors who stage intimacy and want a clearer process for guiding it —including how to communicate with your actors and how to honor the important story points and the actors needs at the same time
Anyone curious about intimacy direction as a practice, whether or not you’re currently working on a project that involves intimacy.
No prior experience with intimacy work is required.
About the Instructor
Becky Blomgren has spent 20+ years as an actor and performer in the US and Europe, and the last decade coaching and directing actors for stage and screen — including intimacy coordination and direction for a variety of productions in the Netherlands. A few of her most recent credits include Big Break (Studio Wednesday), Deep Fake (Downstage Left) and Sunday Morning (InPlayers).
Her work in Intimacy Coordination & Direction grew out of lived experience — both the rehearsal rooms and sets where intimacy was left to chance, and the mentors and directors who showed a better way. Becky has built on that experience through ongoing study of consent practices and intimacy methodologies, to provide direction that is both informed and intuitive. The ultimate goal is always to help you feel safe enough to do brave work.
