Our MC, Jeremy Keighley, will welcome you to the Fresh Direction programme and introduce each of the seven plays. After the first four plays, there will be a 15-minute intermission.
Blace Newkirk, who starred in The Cauldron's “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, is the director of Macy Hohenleitner’s “Every Other Night”. In this play, a group of close friends, portrayed by Antonis Koutsoumpis, Ingrid Ronglan, Milan Pimentel, Nikoleta Mougkasi, and Stacy Filimonova, share stories and jokes, enjoy each other's company and get a kick out of being written into a play.
Marita Graser, a student at the Universiteit van Amsterdam who has directed several short films, is the director of Walter Wykes’s “The Unwanted”. Charlotte Saint-Bonnet, Nathan van Veen, and Zhang Ziru play characters in a situation that seems to be the lead-up to a three-way, but turns into a supernatural blast from the past.
Katarzyna Siewarga, an actress who recently picked up writing screenplays, is the director of Julianne Homokay’s “The Wedding Story”. A Story Teller (Brian Ligthart) tells the wedding of a bride (Alexandra Sokolowski) and groom (Borna Japundzic). Or does he?
Yann Belin, who has designed the beautiful lighting of InPlayer’s “Under Milk Wood” is the director of Alex Broun’s “The First Fireworks”, with Cathrine Andersen as assistant director. After having looked all over for her, Helen (Sherilyn Caudle) finds her mother (Bianca Knijn) sitting on a bench. They reminisce…
Maria Romanova-Hynes, a writer, researcher, and visual artist working in film and academia, is the director of Samuel Beckett’s “Rough for Theatre I”. A blind beggar scraping the fiddle for alms (Maria Marica) and a cripple in a wheelchair (Diego Best) meet on a desolate street corner at the end of the world. They could help each other survive, but in a typical Beckettian farce they end up in a dispute.
Laura Durnford, who displayed her wide range of acting skills in InPlayer’s “Under Milk Wood”, is directing Douglas Hill’s “Cain Town”. Frank (Nardi Lam) is the last customer of the evening in a one-horse town diner. Debbie (Shalini Audhoe) is the waitress waiting to close for the night. When Frank asks for the bill, what should be a normal scenario becomes an emotion-charged exchange.
Raelene Gerritsen, who expertly stage-managed InPlayer’s “Under Milk Wood”, is directing Linda Sjöström’s “Anxiety and Broken Love”. A man (Ente Breed) is waiting for his blind date (Sean Olson-Roy). There’s more going on in his head than appearances may suggest. And the audience gets a peek into the inner workings of his mind.
The InPlayers are a passionate group of individuals from all over the world - a melting pot of creative minds. We vary in age, level of experience, mind-set and of course opinion. Add this to the dramatic and emotional theatre environment, and you get an explosive mix of free spirits, strong personalities, fierce ambitions, creative expression and powerful energy. We are proudly Amsterdam's oldest English language theatre group.
All performances and activities are on a voluntary basis in this amateur group. We explore as many aspects of theatre as we can: from full staged productions of plays and musicals, to staged readings, cold readings and workshops. We provide a safe environment for people to develop their theatrical skills and interests. Any member may propose a production, workshop, reading, etc., to the committee, and we'll do our best to work it into the schedule and support the process.
