It's a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play, Adapted for stage by Joe Landry

We were delighted to complete our winter show, in collaboration with Downstage Left, performed at the Polanentheater from 15th - 18th December 2022. Co-founder of Downstage Left and longterm InPlayers member Denis Burke was our director and we enjoyed working with him and benefiting from his experience!

It's a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play, adapted for stage by Joe Landry is based on the classic holiday movie with a clever twist thrown in: the story is staged as a live radio broadcast. Actors portray numerous characters, and sound effects are done through Foley artists. It’s a Wonderful Life is about the life of George Bailey, a generous and well-meaning man who has become too downcast and tired to continue living. It will take help from a lovable angel to show George what life would be like if he wasn’t born for George to have a change of heart and understand the true spirit of the holidays.

The cast consisted of Downstage Left and InPlayers members, old and new. This was the first time that we put on a show in collaboration with another talented theatre group and we were very excited with this new initiative.

Open video auditions for "Under Milkwood", by Dylan Thomas, directed by George Hansel

Building on our success with “Noir Suspicions” and as we start our Winter production of “It’s A Wonderful Life”, the InPlayers are happy to announce open auditions for our Spring production, “Under Milkwood” by Dylan Thomas, to be directed by the talented George Hansel. Thomas is considered to be one of the quintessential Welsh poets and calls his piece “a play for voices”

It takes place in the fictional Welsh village of Milkwood on Llareggub Hill. Our production will be unique in the fact that all but two of the actors will portray a number of characters, while sitting on a chair, using just their face and their voice to delineate between them. There will be no blocking, no props, and no changing of costumes.

Rehearsals will be at CREA on Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 19:00 - 22:00 and Sundays from 11:00 - 15:00 starting on January 11 2023. There will be 17 rehearsals.

The performances are at the Polanen Theater on March 23rd - 26th in the evening with a matinee on Sunday the 26th.

Auditions will be submitted by video with an IN PERSON call back at CREA on Tuesday, December 6th from 18:00 to 22:00. Once cast you will be sent a script to be worked on over the winter holidays.

There are between 10 and 12 roles available. A Welsh accent will not be necessary or required and open to performers of all genders, ethnicities, ages, sizes, and backgrounds.

We are accepting audition videos until November 25th.

Noir Suspicions

In this hard boiled comic mystery sequel to the ever-popular Murder at Cafe Noir (performed by the InPlayers in 2015), ex-private eye Rick Archer is now the confused manager of Cafe Noir on the island of Mustique. He is confronted with a corpse on the dock, a mysterious femme fatale, a French blackmailer and a businessman who wants both the cafe and the woman. Rick is arrested after the blackmailer is murdered in his club. It is up to the audience to convince the magistrate that he is innocent. A tribute to Casablanca with many references to the classic movie, Noir Suspicions is guaranteed to delight audiences whether or not they are familiar with Murder at Cafe Noir.

Workshop: A Working Play Reading of TWO by Jim Cartwright

This funny, touching play set in a British pub will get the InPlayers treatment in this working play reading.

TWO is a peek into pub life in the North of England portraying life and its complexities. Be prepared for quarrelling landlords, (un)faithful lovers, and even a lost little boy.

At the workshop we will split up the play into scenes and work on them in small groups. Then we showcase the entire play by presenting our scenes to the group, highlighting our interpretations, all under the guidance of the brilliant Christine Blakeley, a longstanding and experienced member of the InPlayers.

This workshop is free for members who joined in either our 2020/21 or 2021/22 season. If you are not a member, you can become a Member For A Day for €25 to join this workshop.

To reserve a spot, please email us - keith@inplayers.org.

Comedy: The Virtuous Burglar & Silver Wedding

Comedy: The Virtuous Burglar & Silver Wedding

Also performed 4th - 5th December 2021 matinees at the Polanentheater

Our smash hit show came back for a second run! After sell-out performances in December, we were very excited to announce that the double bill of The Virtuous Burglar & Silver Wedding will return to the Polanen theatre for 4 performances from 31st March to 2nd April.

Dario Fo’s The Virtuous Burglar (translated by Joe Farrell) is a traditional farce that tells the tale of a thief who gets a little more than he bargained for when he breaks into the apartment of a wealthy couple. Mistaken identity, unexpected phone calls and cheating couples all play a part in this hilarious romp that looks at the natures of honesty and deception.

Matteo Pasquini is a contemporary author, based in the Netherlands. Silver Wedding is about a newly married couple who unwittingly become the victims of a scam when ordering furniture online. Fast paced and silly, this comedic play looks at the dangers of trust and internet shopping!

Evening performances  -  31st March, 1st April, 2nd April

Matinee performance - 2nd April

This amateur production of “The Virtuous Burglar” was presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
